2009

It has been really taxing, mind blasting and heartbreaking. Its drawing to a close. I can't wait. I really can't wait to bury all that has come to past. All that was heavy, entangled, doleful and plainly unnecessary. After all that, 2010 should only be better. I really hope it would.

This Just In: A New Entry! Wuu Zaa!

Alright, time to humour myself with a blog entry as they are really few and far between these days. As I scour the image banks all over the internet searching for ‘leader’ type images in cheesy powerpoint corporate style…I think I earned myself a little breather.

These past few months have been really tough, financially at least. Haven’t had my paycheque in 2-months and I am slowly sinking down the poverty line. Man, I miss those days when paycheques were a certainty. Guess it’s all about learning things the hard way. Despite the savings I had, I guess I could have done better. Maybe sis was right after all. But her regime is far too extreme (or strict). But I may draw some ideas and points from it. She is after all a banker. The one person you would trust when it comes to finances.

I am so hungry now I think I’ll go downstairs and grab me some hot buns. Ooo! Such simple pleasures in life.

Going Around in Circles

Now and again, I feel I’m hanging on for reasons I no longer remember. That maybe I’m afraid of what’s ahead of me. What’s in place for me that I can’t seem to foretell worries me. Perhaps it could all just be an indefinite freefall to self-rediscovery or maybe just utterly disillusion.

Things that I was sure of, plans that I was so certain of has all been in complete and utter disarray. I’ve descended to lows I’ve never thought I’d encounter again. Seems like I’m going around in circles.

I just don’t feel quite the same anymore. Circumstances have been so distorted and I can’t even vaguely recall what went wrong. I want to fix it so badly. Then I ask myself, “What’s the point if it’s turning out to be a destructive vicious cycle? There’s nothing in it for me.”

Breaking out of it is never straightforward. I know it will pass on and life as we know it will go on, as always.

Happiness

True Happiness, many of us seek it, but very few find it
Like the mythical Unicorn, mortals are obsessed with it, many of us hear stories of it,
But few or none of us will ever experience it; True Happiness what is it?
To know happiness you must first understand; "What is Happiness?"

The Satisfaction of Ego via tangible or intangible means does not bring Happiness,
Searching for a new state of Ecstasy does not bring Happiness,
Fulfilling your empty heart does not bring Happiness,
Striving to win - for someone to win others must lose, this does not bring Happiness,
Looking for an exotic creature to satisfy our senses does not bring Happiness,
Falling deeply in love does not ensure Happiness,
Engulfing material wealth does not ensure Happiness,
Even the birth of a newborn, pure and innocent, will bring a temporary state of joy, but not Happiness, as upon separation this joy will turn to sorrow..

Why are these not state of Happiness?
These are not Happy states as these are states of short joy and ecstasy, mere illusions to satisfy the gross mind and body
How do we then find Happiness?

The mere notion of "To Find Happiness" is what we term a wrong view
To "Find Happiness" - we are stating that Happiness has a form, shape, is tangible and a meaning to be sought after
Hence we give Happiness a meaning by saying " I will be happy if i get....",
This is the dilemma of sentient beings,
You seek Happiness but You run towards suffering, via the "Wrong View"
How can we find something, in which at the first place is needless to be sought?

Happiness does not come from "attainment" nor from "elimination"
But the understanding of "Letting Go",
To Let go means to "Have but not Be Attached"
To Let go the of Ego, to Let Go of The "I" in us,
When we say "I", it is the Ego speaking and Not the True Nature speaking..
How many occasions has this "I" driven the world to destruction?

Happiness is a battle within,
Its a battle between the True Nature and The Ego,
For the True Nature to arise one must Let go of the Ego
Stop feeding the Ego Or feel the need to feed the Ego,
Once the Ego subsides the True Nature will reveal itself,
When the true nature arises one will be in a state of stillness, tranquility and peace,
Not because One is Rich, Beautiful or Powerful,
But because one understands..
But you may ask me this, "Is Happiness a state of Stillness, Tranquility and Peace?",
Then i will ask you this...
"Is a person whose within is Still, Tranquil and Peaceful Happy?"...
The answer?

You decide...

Don't Know But Still Do

I don’t know what to blog, but I feel like it anyway. Do not know what’s with the sudden urge. Maybe I do have something to blog about but I just can’t quite grasp it. I’ll do the random bits.

• I will be turning 26 in a couple of days time. An achievement to still be alive nonetheless. Though I can’t find another reason to celebrate other than that.

• After a week, at long last I settled my road tax, car insurance and my mysterious phone bill. Left another dent in my bank account. At least it feels good to be driving my car and making calls again.

• Haven’t bought my suit for Ryan’s wedding yet. Should get cracking but I fear I may not be able to afford it. If only my dad was as tall as me and didn’t wore a grey suit for his wedding. Oh, wait. Mega Sale in on, nationwide. Yes!

• A TV show told me, if you drink less than 3 cups of coffee a day, it’s actually very good for your health. Now that’s a relief.

• Life has been very mono since my iBook stopped functioning. This is going to be hard since I plan my life with it.

• I think I will just stay home tonight.

Goodbye Good Terms, Hello Bad Terms!

The internal unrest that has plagued this agency has now descended from simplicity to unnecessary complexity and now, it’s just downright silly.

Last week, apparently he – the Emosapien, as we would aptly refer to him as – accused me of drug dealing as it recently came to light that he was moonlighting as a drug dealer. I was out on a dinner date on Saturday evening and I just mentioned it to her, updating her with my on-goings and what’s been brewing with this agenda, “He’s gotta do better than that,” she chuckles.

What bugs me more is not the false accusation but it got my parents and sis worried. I don’t blame them for tilting over the fence a little bit over the accusation. It’s only human nature to worry over the people you care for. What bothers me is that he got them worried over nothing. If you want to drag me down with you, you honestly gotta do better than that. You may be 5 years older than me, but in my eyes, you’re no older than daddy’s 5-year old little spoiled brat.

I’ll get my revenge for all the troubles eventually. But unfortunately for him, it’s in a form of karma. Unlike him, I’m in no way vengeful, so basically the first sentence in this paragraph is purely hypothetical. I’ve always been a firm believer of karma; what goes around does come around. I’ll basically put my Champaign on ice and my popcorns in the freezer eagerly waiting for your eventual downfall in the near future whilst booking my front row seat. I want you to know when the time comes; I’ll be watching, smiling, sipping my bubbly and munching popcorns. It’s gonna be quite the show. You should have taken the money and go your separate ways as originally agreed. Instead, you went behind our backs and started digging a hole to drag all of us down with you. You shouldn't have dug the hole in the first place. The hole you're digging would only unearth more unpleasant track record of your 'illustrious' life. But lucky us, the hole is already too deep for you to come back up, let alone drag us down with you. Now I'm wondering, where's the shovel?

We wanted it to end in good terms. Instead you’ve dragged this onto the realm of unnecessary complexity and drama. The ‘good terms’ card is now off. Hello, bad terms!

This is now personal.

It's Pouring. Yes!

It finally rained. Just like that, everyone suddenly feels a heck lot better. This should happen more often or we just find a way to sink or move Indonesia next to America. I mean come on man. Stop burning ‘em forest and bombing your own people!

Yesterday night, I was watching “The Lost Book of Nostradamus” on the telly. I must admit, I am a wee bit freaked out now.

Happy birthday, sis! I can't believe my sis is...30!

I think I have slowly accepted the fact that my 5-year old iBook may never come back to me. It's such a shame. It endured my first year in KL without internet. Now that I have internet, it went blind. Sigh.

Glory! Glory! Man United!

Finally, I got to watch my favourite football team ever play in front of me. I just can’t help but think, what if I lived in Manchester? I’d be doing this every fortnight. If I can afford it, of course. But chances are slim and this is the closest I’d ever get I suppose. Packed stadium, everyone wearing red…feels like Old Trafford, I would assume.

Photobucket
Kev got me and JM each the third away kit (which is also the anniversary kit they wore when they won the UCL awhile back) and I wanted to wear it. But since JM had told me prior to the match that he was gonna wear it. I opted for the last Vodafone home kit.

Photobucket
Pack, pack, pack! I think this is the one and only time Bukit Jalil Stadium is ever full!

Photobucket

Photobucket
When Malaysia equalized, honestly, I was dumbfounded. But that will only mean the game is still on and very much alive! Until a certain Michael Owen won it.

Photobucket
Honestly, I would do it again. But not today (a second match will be held in the same place today as they have cancelled their Indonesia tour due to the recent bombings), because the traffic jam, the long walk and crowding your way all the way to the seats isn't exactly fun if you do it too often :P

Not So Colourful Entry But Let Me Just Blow Off Some Steam

Recently, it has dawn on me that I’m slowly spiraling down. Falling out of love with this industry. I cannot remember how on earth did I manage to put up with it but I did, back then. Now, it’s just so hard to soldier on. Frankly, I’m getting really sick of it.

Maybe it’s the lack of quality in my personal life that’s driving me nuts. The fact that I’d be bashing my head to churn out the 932878971st concept for the same client on the same day and at the end of the day, all I get in return is a deflated self and my room and virtually no-time for myself. Work has spilled into my personal life so much that my own little life here has been watered down severely. It’s so stale, bland and well, monotonous.

Perhaps this is why lately, my ideas are crap (or non-existent) and my motivation is well, unmotivated. It’s funny how it turned out; I tried so hard not to let my personal life affect my work previously. So much so, now it’s the other way round. Did not see this coming at all.

I would soldier on but what’s the point if I can’t finish the journey? Oh, blimey. I need to get out of this industry!

Bringing Back the Colour In Technicolour

You know, I have slipped off the concept for a while now. I should stop posting up these emo posts whilst my blog title remains in technicolour. I don’t know how it happened but it did. It just crept up to me and here I went blah blah-ing about boring emo stuff. Where’s the fun in that if I just whinewhinewhine about life. Might as well I just listen to Simran. OK, bad joke. Don’t hate me Sim. You’re still my friend, heh.
_________________________________________________________
The agency isn’t at its best condition now with all this internal problem brewing. However, being the optimistic person that I am (well, most of the time anyway), I do still see that flicker of light at the end of this perfidious tunnel. Just gotta keep your head up and plow straight to it.
_________________________________________________________
I think I finally figured her out. It was ultimately quite a simple conclusion. But hey, I am a bloke, a dude, a guy. I have 2 heads (not 2 faced!), so when there is so-called “conflict of interest”, my usually spot-on judgment is a little fogged up. So, now I know what to do or lack there of.
_________________________________________________________
Attended JM’s birthday bash last weekend.
Photobucket
Photobucket
3 venues, a crap load of people and a swimming pool’s worth of alcohol to be consumed. Simply said, it was eventful. Very eventful.
________________________________________________________
After weeks of procrastinating and lacking the right tools to perform this delicate operation, I finally attempted it. Needless to say, I pulled it off and did not pull it off at the same time.
Photobucket
Precision screwdrivers, check. Hex screws in all sizes, check. Spudger, check. Coffee, check. Pliers, check. My wit...umm, check.
Photobucket
Alright! Here goes...
Photobucket
This part really sucks. JM went to internet and searched, "How to loosen super tight screws" and hence the plier. Man, the internet rocks! How did I live my life prior to the internet? Hmmm...
Photobucket
Prying the white covers out isn't as easy as it seems. The spudger worked well for most of the time. And when it failed, there's always a guitar pick! I think I cracked something along the way. Oh well...
Photobucket
As you can see, it isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do, prying open this iBook. Sadly, the tip I got online didn’t bring back my iBook’s sight. But I am not about to give up just yet. Operation #2 is scheduled in already. Let’s hope it would bear fruit. Life without a computer surely sucks I tell you. And for the record, my desk is usually cleaner (and neater) than this! I swear!
_________________________________________________________
Yesterday, me and JM completed our 2-day Futsal tour. First session was with a new crowd. We got to them via Gary. It was fresh as we played (for the first time in a year) in a different venue somewhere is Section 17. I think I like it here better. Mainly because it’s so bloody near my house compared to Subang. Yesterday we round-up the first 2-day Futsal session at our usual Sports Planet in Subang with CY’s friends. No thanks to Subang and its perpetually jammed up roads, we were incredibly late and managed only 30-minutes playing time. Sheer disappointment. And I did not score a single goal. Though I did manage around 10 with the previous session. 9 tap ins and 1 superb Torres-ish volley. Seriously, I doubted myself and even had a microsecond bet to myself that I will miss the ball completely. Must be the new boots.
_________________________________________________________
My birthday is coming up and I have absolutely no clue what I want to do. Because at this point in time, alcohol doesn’t interest me. Oh, the predicament. Let’s see what happens next week.

Cheerio!

(P/S: Blogging is getting more and more challenging these days especially with Facebook around. And just to add insult to injury, Twitter is so damn bloody addictive! Argh!)

Mirror For A Cow

I’ve got issues.

Maybe it’s the people around me. But of late, my patience is running thin. I can only take that much repulsive, sordid and atrocious mannerisms. Dammit, I am only human.

I work with an incompetent pigheaded cow. And I mean it quite literally. I thought (maybe we all did) I saw a glimmer of hope in this fella. Because after all, people change. They do. Brush aside the whole leopard never changes it spots or tiger with the stripes crap. Because if you can’t, then – in my opinion – there’s no free-will. When there’s no free-will, why bother at all? It’s just a matter of choice and how much do you want it. How badly you need it. All it takes to start off this process is a – mirror. Just like how the late MJ sang it in,”Man in the mirror”.

But I guess he doesn't really care. So I suggest, start marching towards the door.

Fall Out

When you’ve been working non-stop for about a year and 3-months, you can’t help but drag your own feet and feel like you’re as heavy as an elephant when you wake up every morning. I know I have. I can’t even remember how it feels like to just drop everything, pack my bags and look forward to a weekend free from care. Snapping stupid random photos with silly poses, eating whatever I can find (and constantly) and to feel the wind on my palm as I drive away from all ‘em stress.

Work has been mad. Sheer madness if you ask me. Though late nights have been avoided most of the time, but that’ll still wear you down in the long run when breaks are few and far between.

I think I am slowly going mad. Or worst, I might actually fall out of love with this industry. If it does come to this; I haven’t quite figured where to go from here…

Losing

I’ve lost it. Don’t think I can find it back. Don’t think I want to find it back. It’s strange how events unfold themselves, how things just come and then just go. Just like that. The morning zephyr pushed aside by the humid afternoon draft.

Funny, how the things you own eventually ends up owning you.

Very Nice One

This morning, I heard the best sales pitch and it goes like this:

Every morning, before heading to work we would all stop by our favourite chinese kopitiam, aptly named 8888 for obvious reasons. This salesman has been there before. Usually selling really random items. From what I can make of it, he doesn't make that many sales (if any at all) because this is how he does his so-called sales pitch.

Imagine, you would be seated, drinking your coffee, iced Milo or whatever it is. He'll walk right up to you and extend this arm, holding the product (usually socks, pens or children's jigsaw puzzle) up to your face and mutters absolutely nothing. What do you do? You shake your head and ignore him. He'll go away.

But this morning, he was the semangat. This time selling biscuits. Again, he hold the bloody thing up to my face and mutters the best sales pitch I've ever heard, "Eh, this one very nice wan!"

I was having egg and toast, "This one also nice!" whilst pointing to my breakfast.

He walked away after that.

Shifting

Looks like I got sidetracked again! Man, blogging has really become such a chore sometimes.

After a year of almost-happens, almost-went-mad and almost-bachelor-pad, I am finally moving out. It was quite the revelation if you ask me. Lying around the sofa spacing out, reflecting and contemplating and it just hit me. For better or for worse, I need a change. Besides, walking up 3-flights of stairs everyday to get home is starting to bore the crap out of me.

After weeks of false hopes and failed deals, we (did I mention Kenneth and Devi would be my housemates?) finally found the gem of all apartment/condo rental deals. I found the number on the papers, but I was too out of it (and incredibly lazy) to call. Thank god Kenneth picked up where I unceremoniously left off and called.

It wasn’t that much of a deal if you ask me.

It was more like a steal!

1,400+ sq. ft. corner unit with 2 balcony, fully decked out kitchen cabinets (stove and vacuum included with marble top counter) along with 4 air-cond units, 2 heaters and a mountain view…4 swimming pools (infinity, wading, lap and regular pool).

I can’t wait to get moving bit over and start living in this new place! But the thought of moving…is…so…daunting. Sigh. Oh well, it’s all worth it.

New Set Of Wheels

I do wish I would be writing about a new car I just bought, dumping that piece of metal junk that causes me nothing but heartache and a huge hole in my wallet.

But I can’t.

However, after months of procrastinating, I finally got my rims and all my tyres changed. The front tyres is do damn botak I could see tear marks, “No more worries about exploding tyres,” I explained to JM. I’ve been driving around with apprehension, taking corners slower than a snail.

Unfortunately, as much as I would have liked to change to a better, more aesthetically appealing and also sturdier rims, I ended up buying the exact same ones because times are hard these days, better not over indulge. Even though my justification was, “I intend to drive this car for another 3 years at least, might as well get a decent one,” but the offer given to me was too sweet to turn away.

LIM TAYAR has inadvertently saved my life and I am now enjoying my new set of wheels. Ah…

Photobucket

People, I strongly recommend that bloody place. Don’t let its intimidating, expensive looking façade scare the living crap outta you. Just go. If you are skeptical, just get a quote. You’d be amazed. Every other shop was quoting me at RM600+, bordering RM700 for the standard rim. At LIM TAYAR…for a set of rims (4) and tyres plus alignment and balancing…

The grand total was, RM422.

Best thing to have happened to me in a while.

Hullabaloo & Wake-Up Calls

Days ago, another close friend of mine sensationally announced his plan to marry his girlfriend of a year albeit in the most corny approach. He did it via Facebook.

Naturally, when it was announced, it wasn’t said in the most clear-cut fashion. No one took it seriously. In fact, no one believed it. Heck, I didn’t believe it myself ‘till I personally rang him up. Just to be sure.

With the controversy it attracts, sometimes I think, is this for real or just a mean of being convenient? I hope this is all for the right reasons. The rush to tie the knot doesn’t help chase away the hullabaloo.

“Whatever it is dude,” a friend had previously asked for my 2cents on this ‘surprise’ announcement, “There’s nothing we can do or say to him,” because the ‘Bubble Factor’ is already in place. Nothing gets thru. No matter how obvious. If it should all go wrong.

But hey, his one of my closest friends. I wish him all the best.

I am reconstructing my life. At 25 (soon 26), I can’t be carrying all this excess baggage with me anymore. It doesn’t seem to worth the effort anymore. My back starts to hurt. My shoulders are heavy. My legs are weary. My eyes are disillusioned. These pieces on the floor that needs picking up, perhaps I’d just sweep it all off and make a new one.

Hand Of God, Well Sort Of

“You fancy a game after work?” I ask. It was Wednesday. That means it’s Futsal Day. I figured Ben could use the workout, “Heck, I’ll loan you my boots,” I thought, what the heck, since I already bought me a new pair of sensationally cool Nike Total 90. I guess it’s about time I gave this new pair a runabout, “Tell you what, you can keep my old Pumas. They’ve served me very well, take good care of ‘em.”

Barely 1-minute into the game, just after kick off, I sprained my left thigh. That effectively wiped out my chances of sprinting. I was utterly disappointed to have gotten injured so early in the game. But it wasn’t as bad, not yet anyway so I battled on. Which made it worst. Hence, I switch roles, “Dude, you head up man, I’ll guard the goal,” I tell Chee Yong as I limped back.

In goal, I was on fire. No one could get a ball pass me. Every shot was met, every ricochet parried away. Unfortunately, that also contributes to the damage even more. We won the game. Next game wasn’t so great, sadly. Ben somehow psychoed me to go up front and be a goal poacher. Which almost worked. Almost scored. But my attempt was blocked and same goes to the rebound attempt. That effectively sprained by right thigh.

Now both my thighs are busted. I can barely even walk. Was limping. And due to my competitive nature, I soldier on. Perhaps in search of a silver lining because I felt it’d be a tremendous shame to debut my brand spanking new boots in such a dreadful situation.

Back at goal, I limped about to block as many shots as I could and then it happened. A fellow teammate was sprinting ahead, signaling me to feed the ball to him in a swift counterattack. I spotted his run and proceeded to do my trademark Peter Schemeichel bullet-like throw. I watch as no one came close to meet the ball as the ball sliced thru the air.

And it went straight in. GOAL!

Honestly, after scoring that freak goal. It was downhill from there on. But I didn’t care. I found my silver lining. I’ll be able to sleep well tonight. Bring on next week! Hopefully this injury wears off in time.

Also, now I know why Torres gets injured so much. We have the same boots!

Gentle, Breezy Embrace

Caution: This can be really cheesy. But I thought it was rather – interesting. Last weekend, JM and me planned a trip back to Penang. But due to unforeseen last minute obligations and sheer laziness, we opted to cancel the trip and wait for the Labour Day long weekend.

Couple of days later, I explained to JM that how Penang has its way with you, “It’s strange how if you can’t go to Penang,” says I, “Penang might just come to you!”

Perplexed and suspecting I was under some sort of influence, he responded, “Errr, I don’t quite follow man,”

I explained, “You know I have a Penang flag stuck on the wall in my room, right?” one of my recent trips back to the island, I was with mom in Young Ones which is along Burma Road. I purchased 2 Penang flags there, just for kicks. Because it was cheap. And I was feeling very patriotic to the island, “I woke up on Saturday morning draped by the flag.” Incidentally, if we had go according, we would be in Penang by then.

“Woah.”

“I know! It was strangely comforting waking up with the flag as a makeshift (albeit lousy) blankie,” I concluded.

That made my day.

Now I feel obligated to buy a flag each for each of my friends from Penang currently outside of the island. Yeah, you laugh now. Wait till you wake up one morning draped by its gentle, breezy embrace. Then you’ll know what I am yapping about.

Rude Awakening

Something happened on Sunday. Something I’ve never experienced before. Made me look at life in an entirely new perspective. Scared me shitless. For days, I lived in fear. Trepidation lynches above me, walks beside me, and stalks me from behind. But cannot carry on like this. I am not one to lie down and flag a white cloth and let the heebie-jeebies get the best of me. I will soldier on.

Been Busy

Crap, I've been swamped. Work is flooding in fast.

"Wah, but being busy is good mah," she tells me.

I whined, "But, but, but," starting to have the jitters, "I can't Facebook, chat, blog, watch YouTube and read!"

Bah, truth be told. I don't really miss Facebook that much. Chatting can sometimes feel like such a chore and YouTube has way too much rubbish in it. OK, maybe I do miss YouTube a bit. But what the heck, I've been reading this:

Photobucket

So...yeah. I hate my clients. For keeping me occupied and away from this graphic novel. I've seen the movie and I have to say, it's pretty damn close to the movie. Panel for panel. Albeit the ending is different.
_______________________________________________

The mole had a dinner party at the Jelly's last weekend. He's been freeloading off the Jelly close to 4-weeks now. Perhaps maybe he was feeling a bit bad for not contributing something back. So he cooked.

Now, those who were at Zach's during Boxing Day in 2004 -- the day before the Tsunami hit our shores -- would remember that the Mole had cooked and disappointed a lot of people with that alluring smell of fried chicken. How is that disappointing? Imagine sinking your teeth in one of the best damn fried chicken smell you've ever smelt and only to taste paper.

"Should we have a backup plan?" says one.

I tell him it would be a great idea, "Yes, surely!"

He attempted Chicken Cordon Bleu. And in all honesty. It was sublime. Not only it had a taste, it actually tasted damn good, "Anything with cheese would taste good lah," one tells me, trying to steal this thunder.

"Well, you gotta give it to him," I tried to defend him, "At least there's taste this time," I conclude.

However, he made each piece waaaay too thick and the stove was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay, waaaaaay too hot. As a result of that, the meat wasn't entirely cooked, "I guess at the end of the day he still messed it up," I say. Which he did. At the center of this Cordon Bleu was raw chicken. In which I ate, assuming it's ham or something.

In the end, we still had to order Dominos.

New LIFT

Alas, LIFT sports a newer, fresher look. LIFT has been Penang-fide, obviously enough. It does feel a little like home everytime I blog now.

And I finally got my plant.

Thursday, 26 March 2009

The Adventure

I wanted to get a plant for both the office and my house. But instead of a brisk trip to the local shop, I got an adventure instead. I was to go to Ikea, but somehow by the time I parked, I noticed it wasn't Ikea. In fact, it was far from it. It was TESCO. Nevermind. They sell potted plants here too.

I set aside a RM20 budget. More than enough, right?

Again, I surprised myself. Instead of sorting out among the greens, I find myself lost deep within the isles and loitering in the organic produce section with a basketful of, well, groceries.

I even found those pimpin' hanging dice thingy. And it smells like lavender. For RM6.90. Buy. 2.

At the counter my bill was just short of RM100 -- which already exceeds my original plant-buying budget -- and made my way to the plant section, which is actually outside the TESCO building. Out in the open. So lugging 2 big plastic bags full of stuff, I was just about to reach when the heavens started pouring buckets after buckets of unrelenting rain coupled with deafening thunder and occasionally being blinded by lightning.

I am wet. I am running. While lugging the big plastic bags across to the other end of the parking lot. In the rain.

To make matters worst. I forgot to bring up my parking ticket. So no free parking and I have to run back in to TESCO and pay for my parking and run back to the car.

And I still haven't got my damn plant!

Shoes and Ball Gazing

“Wow, you’re really into it now huh?” A-tron tells me right after I told him I was hunting for a new pair of shoes at Starbucks in One Utama.

A bit surprised, “Dude,” I replied, placing my Mild Seven Lights on the table, “I’ve been into it since I was like 10,” referring to football, “This is probably my 20th pair of football boots and my 3rd futsal boots,”

Earlier, it was just me, the jelly and the mole. A-tron and Neh was already in One-U earlier. Apparently to pickup some Jusco vouchers for Shell, “Cha, I have to sing for Shell in Genting, cha!” I am guessing he isn’t looking forward to that much.

We made our way to Nike after A-tron was done visiting the gay shop. Well, it wasn’t actually a gay shop. It’s just really queer. Those souvenir/gift type shops with copious amount of cute and cuddly toys and stuff. I stood outside after helping him justify which ash tray he should buy and pointed at my balls, in which A-tron couldn’t help but glance at it. I gave him that ‘ball-gazer’ look and proceeded to walk inside and give him a swift punch.

Ball gazing is this little weird thing A-tron came up with. In order to punch that person, you have to trick that person to either stare or glance at your crotch. I don’t really get it but I felt he deserved one after he made us go to that shop.

We left Adidas after I realized the boots I was interested in was ultimately too plain and Nike was disappointing; they – as usual – did not have my size. What’s with Malaysians and small feet? So we headed down to Studio R, where they have it as well. The new Total 90 looks stunning. The Jelly also found himself some decent footwear. He calls me over to check out his discovery, “OMG,” yes I went all woman-y over it, “This shoe is amazing!” as I was holding it, I flipped over to check out the price, “RM149?! That’s bloody cheap!” Heck, I’d buy one of those. But I felt bad, because last time, I beat him to a pair that he wanted which I thought looked cool too. Sadly that shoe was stolen about 6-months later, “Perhaps it’s karma,” I tell the jelly, “You can have this one!” I don’t think I’d fancy buying 2 pairs of shoes.

In the end, Studio R had my size. And I abso-fucking-lutely love my new pair of futsal boots! I think I came a little as I wore it the very first time. Aah..

One. Last. Attempt.

So my iBook went blind few days back. And since about 2 years ago when this happened, I’ve completed my transformation into a full-blown Mac user. Incidentally, I’ve also been reduced to only 1 computer. But hey, Macs are reliable.

2 years on, the iBook – for the very first time – finally had a problem. Sadly, it’s quite monumental. One of the reasons why iBook was discontinued and replaced by MacBooks was because of their history with faulty logic boards. This board controls the flow of power in your laptop. I guess the power flow for the display has been dislodged. The real problem seems to be the video chip; the chip itself is placed onto the logic-board on a so-called Ball Grid Array. If you’re wondering, I’ve been researching. A lot.

They had a logic board replacement program for iBooks. Unfortunately, mine falls JUST outside the covered range (bollocks!) and I would either need to fork out about RM2,000 (might as well buy a new laptop, right?) to replace it or I could fix it DIY style ala do-or-nothing approach. And since I don’t really need to backup anything (worst comes to worst just extract the pathetic 30GB HD and get a case to salvage any files I might need), might as well give it a go right? I might learn a few new tricks as well.

Maybe it’s worth to try this shop out first. Click here, they specialized in all Apple.

Who knows?
But then again, I’ve almost come to terms with the passing of my beloved 5-year old iBook. God speed!

Blinded

It’s been 5-years. 5 long, wonderful and stress-free years with her since I picked her up from Gurney. We’ve been through some very rough and very good times together. She always knew how to make me smile and keep me going. She’s there for me when no one is. She listens, she sings, she teaches and she entertains. She never nags when I make a mistake or slip up. She always understands that I am only human. She was perfect. When we’re together, it’s as though nothing would ever come between us. We are one. I take her everywhere with me, through my internship, my final year in college. She even helped me sailed thru the first few years in advertising.

Last night, our romance came to an abrupt end. She could no longer see me, hear me. She huffs and puffs with no avail. I can see her, but she can’t see me.

Oh why oh why. I am gonna miss my iBook.
I hope the Mac-docs can sort her out.

Wish me luck.

Multi-Timing

Vig called yesterday. He wants to know what am I up to in the evening. I told him, “I am just about to pack up and head home,”

“Oh, really ah, cha?”

“Yeah, what’s up?” I enquire.

“If you would be so kind,” he readies himself to ask the favour, “I was hoping you could send me to pick up my big bike at 6.30pm.”

It was already 6pm, so I thought what the heck, “Yeah, sure neh. Just gimme a call once you reach home,” and we hung up.

Then it struck me and that prompted me to text his housemate and ex-partner in crime:

“When on Indian timing, usually it’s 10-minutes, 20-minutes or an hour later from the proposed time?”

He replies soon after:

“No less than an hour.”

He was spot on. Vig arrived exactly an hour later. On the dot at 7.30pm. Kenneth asked why? I told him so and he proceeded to give me the low down on timing based on racial background:

“Told ya. Never fails. Ah Neh: 1-hour, Malay: 30-minutes, Chinese: on-time or a fraction too early, mixed race: few minutes early or late and mamak: always on the way.”

Man, I love living in a multi-racial country.

Flick/Toss And Wish!

Photobucket

I am not too sure who came up with this, but hey, it’s sounds eccentrically fun and if you get it right; who knows, your wish might just come true. Or so he says.

His body was half way out of the car, which was probably cruising at about 50 to 70 km/h at least as they approach the mid-span of the bridge, “I WISH FOR A GIRLFRIEND WHO WOULD MAKE ME COFFEE EVERY MORNING!” he yells out and toss a coin.

According to him, you need to make a wish (you may or may not shout it out, its up to you) and with a coin in hand (this is also subjective, but we like to think the higher the value the better) and try to toss/flick it in-between any of the cables from the 2 arches.

And your wish shall come true.

That was a while ago before they got along, “So did it came true?” I ask with a coin in my hand. He turns his head over, grinning from ear-to-ear. Immediately I knew the answer, “Dammit, drive slower,” with my hair completely out of shape due to the wind I stuck out my hand and took aim, “Come on, come on, come on,” and flicked. It went straight up and to the other direction, “CRAP!” I yelled because I obviously can’t flick a coin for shit.

On the same night, after dropping off Kenneth, we noticed this cute somewhat full grown dog standing in front of some house along Lembah Permai, “Looks like he’s trying to get back into the house,” I joked to JM.

“Kesian the fella la, it’s raining!” JM says.

On the next day, we met up with Kenneth at Arati’s along with Vig. Joining me, JM, Roby and Gan, “Dude, you look like shit!” statement directed at Kenneth.

As he adjusted his shades, “You had no idea what happened yesterday night after you guys left!” took a sip of Carlsberg, “I saw this mongrel knocking, clawing and whining outside the gate,” he tells us. He thought it was some stray dog desperate for shelter and he couldn’t care any less, “Then after awhile, it just sat there as if giving up,” filled to the brim with pity, he decided to brace the rain and let that mongrel in, “Kesian lah!”

(Shit, this is the same dog we saw last night!)

But little did he know after cleaning her up, she’s a almost-full-grown-shining golden retriever! Albeit a little sick and skinny, “She’s been left out there for at least a few days!” he tells us as he conducted his CSI, “There are scratch marks on her nose which indicates she’s been shoving her face inside garbage bins for food,”

“Maybe she was in a fight?” says JM.

“If it was a fight, she would have bruises, scratch marks all over her!”

They aptly named her, Friday. Because she was rescued on the worst day possible – on a dark, rainy Friday the 13th. She has been adopted by one of aunty Sue’s friend and she should be on her way to recovery after the trip to the vet.

After the wedding lunch, as we were making our way back to KL, we found ourselves approaching the mid-span again. This time, he wasn’t with us. But Vig is, “Are you guys ready?” as I grab myself a coin.

“What are you gonna wish for?” Neh asked.

We had just bought 4D earlier before we left. We bought 1389. 13 for Friday the 13th, 8 for luck and 9 for dog. This time, I am tossing the coin, “I WISH I STRIKE LOTTERY!!!!!”

This time, the range was better, but still came short. About a meter short from even reaching the base of cables. It’s a hell lot harder than it seems.

Kicked

After the 3rd snooze this morning, I woke up. Rather groggily, I stoop up. Or least tried to do so. Made my way to the door. Crashed onto my cupboard door instead. Door in front, cupboard door on the far right. That’s how far I missed the target.

It’s been ages since I last played a full game of football. In fact, Wednesday’s session was the first for 2009.

After 2 games back-to-back, my team left the pitch to make way for the next team. I was out of my breath, out of my mind and in the brink of passing out, “Dude, your face is damn pale wei,” says the Jelly at the stands.

I haven’t even realized, but it wasn’t surprising because I felt pale anyway.

Note to self: Need to get fit. Though I did recover shortly afterwards and went on and scored 3 goals.

I'm Not Listed As 'Single'

Facebook is weird.

Just like Friendster, when I first heard of Facebook, I was morosely hesitant to register, “Another social network site?” I ask, “Why can’t we all just stick with Friendster?” I wonder.

It didn’t take long to find out why people were migrating over. Apart from the cool new features like the introduction of apps (web applications) and photo tagging, Friendster was already plunging down a slope to down town China. Simply said, “It’s damn jing jang lah,” that’s how a friend of mine used to explain all things tacky.

The minute I checked my testimonials (wah, old skool), I had supposedly made “new” friends. Girls to be exact, those peculiarly cute, zombie pale, big eyed, cartoony Japanese looking local girls that speaks English that sounds more like Mandarin. My testimonial column is no longer filled with actual testimonials written by real friends, but filled with false hopes, tacky graphics like “I miss you,” or “Happy Birthday” on January even though my birthday is in August. Bloody hell, I don’t even know who you are and those annoying cute little kittens with those exaggeratedly cute messages and overly tacky sparkles could make you cough out fur balls and see stars before you jump off your balcony.

So, I registered for Facebook.

That was years ago. Since the end of last year, I’ve gotten used to it. It’s much easier to track down photos taken by a friend at some party, there’s a lot to do there (which spells danger for bosses) and so on. Simply said, anyone can find out about your whole life and how you look like when you’re sad, happy, angry, drunk or where you work, for how long just by clicking onto your page. I’ve heard stories of people losing their jobs because they were dumb enough to add their bosses into their Friend’s list. Some even got divorced.

Annoyed by that idea that people could access such information, I decided to slowly pull back my information. One by one off my page. Just for kicks. For some reason – maybe its due to my ‘caveman hiding in his cave’ mode – I started with my relationship status. It’s been pathetically stuck on ‘Single’ since the day I registered. Assuming it’ll be perpetual for a while more, so I removed it. I did not change anything. I just refrain to put it out on display. And hopefully, this would fly under everyone’s radar.

“Facebook is evil,” Dasha once wrote that on her status.

Rightfully justified. It didn’t fly underneath any radar. It was all over the place. I got bombarded with endless torrent of questions by almost everyone I know – either on MSN or my Wall on Facebook – asking, “Who’s this girl?”

Heh, this is fun. Best part is, I’ve not answered anyone. In fact, I skipped around the question. Usually choosing to answer the second part of the question that is completely unrelated to the topic at hand.

Here’s to adding a splash of mystery to my character!

Shit, hang on, I have a blog.

CRAP.

Nonchalant Weekend

Last weekend I did abso-fucking-lutely nothing and I am quite (very, actually) glad I took it. Since the start of 2009, the year has been nothing but one big massive party with not a moment to put your feet up.

I’ve been telling myself since the very first week of 2009 ended that I needed a decent chilled out weekend to recuperate and recollect. But it was having none of it. Parties were still going on at full throttle, well at least the parties are though the same can’t be said for the attendees (well, most of them). Simply because of the nonchalant half hearted and unenthusiastic chanting, “Y…a…y…, …p…a…r…t…y…!”

So yeah, last weekend’s rest was much needed. What better way is there to celebrate my first anniversary since moving down here by myself and a huge bloody…well, yeah. You know what I mean.

Now my shoulders ache because on Sunday, I thought, “OK, enough of doing nothing all day,” and headed to the pool for a few laps after lunch. I got a bit carried away with the laps. Planned to go for a meager and modest 5 (because I have shitty stamina), which ended up at 15 laps. Now I’m just trying to recollect how did I psyched myself into doing this ridiculous deed. Oh wait, I remember now. Because Caring could pull off a 20 lap easy, so I guess I didn’t want to be out shun by a girl.

Oh well...

Yesterday

Yesterday,
The Jelly and me had a mission albeit work-related. Because the video production guy delivered his show reel 6-hours late, we had to postpone the drive back to Penang ‘till tomorrow morning. Because after watching 8 episodes of Justice League back-to-back, we couldn’t be bothered to drive back at 12am. We needed to be there by 2.30pm. So we left in the morning at 9am. I was very out of it. Could not function. Could not think. So I slept most of the way back. We arrived at about 12.30 in Penang and it was straight to work.

“Oi, where you guys?” the duck called while we were on the bridge.

How did he know we were back? I hadn’t called anyone and JM didn’t mention it to anyone either, it was unreservedly and relatively baffling how the Duck got this information, “Yeah, we are,” I say, “It’s gonna be a really, really short trip,” I told him it is VERY likely we won’t be able to even meet up for anything ‘cause on the way back, we found out Kenneth’s dinner party is today. Not the day after as we all thought.

The Duck understood although a little disappointed. Or at least that’s the impression I got.

Dropped by Blue Reef – for those who don’t have Facebook: Blue Reef is a seafood restaurant co-owned by an old friend of mine Swen and a former neighbour of mine, they’ve been together for the longest time. And I was given the opportunity to design their logo and menu – to borrow their printer to print out my presentation notes.

Yesterday,
The meeting/presentation went smooth. Very smooth. They were impressed. Heck, even I was impressed that we managed to dodge a few tricky questions. No wonder all 4 of us attended the presentation. Power in numbers.

Immediately after the presentation – immediately meaning we had a couple of cigarettes with ‘em clients before shooting off – we headed back to KL. We had only spent about 4-hours in Penang. It was weird.

Yesterday,
We got back to Damansara at 9pm, exactly 12 hours since we start of the journey, “Can you believe we were back in Penang this afternoon?”

Hard to believe, as it is, “Yeah, what a weird day,” says the Jelly, “And it’s exactly 9pm!”

Yesterday,
After all the huu haa, we made it back and attended the dinner party on time. That alone made the rest who arrive late look really bad, “Bloody hell, we drove over 300km to attend this man!” I tell Kenneth, “How’s that for commitment in friendship?!”

It was only after gorging myself silly with Kenneth’s signature lamb and rice that I felt the full extend of the day’s toll on me. I took a sit and drank another cup of Bastard Punch, a concoction created by the man himself before grabbing a beer in the fridge and sat myself on the rocking chair just next to the sofa. As usual, with 5 guitars on the offing, I neglected all of them and picked up the djembe instead.

Ika – Simran’s wife had already awaken from her short-lived slumber – was next to me, “Meng, what are you doing?”

“It’s my mating call,” I winked at her, “It’s in season now and I am so in the mood,”

She took a quick look around the house, everybody was busy eating, drinking and chit-chatting, “I think you’re beat’s a bit out of tune. Obviously, it’s not attracting anything,”

Pathetically enough, she was right. But just when you thought all had gone to waste, Caring started dancing in the kitchen, “Ah HAH!” I say and preceded to hit the djembe even louder, “I think it’s working,” by now I am very optimistic. Beats were getting louder and faster.

Of course, Caring was clueless, so she kept bouncing, “What, what?” looking at us.

“That’s his mating call lah,” Ika spilled.

“Oh, is it? Hee hee hee,” she came over and sat next to me.

Hah, my mating call so worked.

Things I see, hear, do and say in KL

People dressed up as cartoon characters. They’re walking manggas to me and truth be told, they weren’t even going for the look-alike look. This is just their regular look. I can’t imagine if they did dress up.

Everybody owns an iPod here.

Attended a lesbian birthday party. Yes, I was the only bloke there. Best day ever.

I once wore a coat to club. It was Bar Savant II. I was so cool.

I saw 2 blokes holding hands in public. Yeah, you just can’t stop starring. Kind of like when you spot a road-kill. It’s gross but you can’t get your eyes off it.

Another one bites the dust. Bon voyage Sim!

On a related topic, never once have I – or any of my friends – thrown 3 bachelor’s party for just ONE guy. Don’t get the wrong impression. First attempt, he was the last to arrive and first to pass out. I was sick during the second one, but I was told that I didn’t miss much. Third, well the third was a monumental failure at the very least. It seems to be on track until, “What do you mean they sent us a whore? What happened to the stripper?” It went downhill from there. Though we did get refunded for the stripper that never came. And if you MUST know, the whore (which was supposed to be the stripper) was uglier than an ugly guy. How bad? Here’s an example: Roby volunteered to give Sim a queer strip show; everyone actually paused for a brief moment to consider.

The earliest I’ve ever slept since moving out was 11.30pm. And it doesn’t happen very often.

Saw 2 Lamborghinis in the same car park. One Murcielago and one Diablo. You don’t see shit like this is our humble Penang. Only Bentleys.

The closest I’ve ever gotten to end this ridiculous dry spell is a french-kiss.

I need an iPhone to improve my street credentials! Why? They’ve got an app for everything!

On the guitar, I’ve learnt about 10+ new (in full, if I might add) songs since moving here. Time to graduate to acoustic.

I can bang on the djembe better than Vig. What’s worst is that I am Chinese and he is Indian. Well, half at least.

Catch Ups

Kuala Lumpur.

Ah, the city. The promise, the potential and the life that’s on offer. So much is out there, so little time to absorb and experience it all. I woke up this morning only to find out the water supply has been cut. Bastards. Of all the time in the world. But heck, I got up early; maybe it’ll be restored soon. I turned on the TV and watch Sesame Street (the alphabet for the day was ‘W’, how ironic), sipped my coffee and lit a cigarette in my boxers. At this point I look like Wolverine with no body hair and muscles. Couldn’t be bothered to fix my hair. I sat, sipped and puffed whilst reflecting.

5 more days to go and I will have mark my first anniversary since leaving my beloved home and lovely island of Penang in exchange for the bustling city that supposedly never sleeps. Yes, I meant KL.

Another year looms. Gosh that was quick. A year flew by just like that. What the heck have I done for the past year? Let’s see, my first job in KL was a complete and utter disaster. I was reunited to a client that I truly and deeply hate back in Penang and here’s a little splash of wine, this time I deal with the HQ! OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD. To make matters worst, I had to baby sit interns and work with a pair of sappy half-witted twats that are so-called my boss. I left after 3 and a half months to join JM at another agency.

From one disaster to another, I landed a job at this agency, my salary got a tiny raise and everything seemed good then. There was even a plan to take-over the agency despite its debts because they had a decent array of clients. 4 of us taking charge, seems good, we were making a crap load. Until I come across the deeply entangled web of politics that plagued this agency. In just a few months, they got rid of the 2, leaving just JM and me and tackle the rest of the workload. Not to mention we were unceremoniously moved from SS2 to KL, as in opposite KLCC kind of KL. Like the heart of KL itself. Of course, the take-over plan has already gone with the wind.

Now I sit on my plush – albeit a little too low on the back – black office chair with my extra large black VIKA AMON Ikea table with my flashy 21” maxed out iMac sitting on it wondering how on earth did I ended up doing here. Whatever happened to my plans to go back studying while I gain some real world working experience in the city? What happened to working with a big reputable agency and get treated like dirt? Why am I still single? How on earth do I rid myself off this ridiculous dry spell?

I guess the first year was like an orientation. An introduction to get to know the roads, the city and where to go to avoid those ridiculous phantom jams. A test run, perhaps. I guess the second year would hold much more promise.

I’ve got a target to hit with this agency which I have a stake in.

I’ve got to sort out the girl.

I’ve got to clear my debts.

I’ve got to start making my money work for me.

I’ve got to wish that my car stops giving me problem.

I’ve got a lot to do.

And now with the water supply back on, I’ve gotta get to work!

I’ll be back. Heading back to Penang today for a presentation. Cheerio.

Tension/Release

If you're going to make someone laugh at the absurd, tell some truth with it; if you're going to make someone cry, give them a silver lining to look to; and if you're going to insult someone, always end it with a wink and a smile. That's the essence of tension and release. It lies at the core of artistic expression, and its importance can't be ignored for long.

Tuesday, 13 January 2009

Dear Penang,

I miss you.

OK, that's all.

(P/S: and Wan Tan Mee too.)
